A Few Days Later

May 12th, 2009

So having a new baby has done something that I did not expect to happen.  Noah seems like he has really grown up.  He seems like he is very tall and he feel considerably heavier to pick up than he used to be.  Maybe it is just that now that I have a little baby I just notice how big he is now.  It could also be that he stepped up a bit now that there is a smaller kid at home.  It is probably a bit of both.

So Carolyn was promising that there would be pictures up very fast, but she was promising on my work, sorry it has taken so long.  So first off is the run down.  I dropped Carolyn off at the hospital to get her water broken and I needed to go to work to test some Kool-aid I had left in the over for 5 days of so.  I got back to the hospital around 8 and Carolyn was having contractions inconsistently about 2 or 3 every 30min.  We walked the halls for a while and sat on the exercise ball, then we were sitting around and getting board.  I was sent off to get some cards and a book to read, I also made my self an egg salad sandwich (I was hungry now because I had not eatten much because I was nervous, but since we had things going I was okay again).  I arrive back at the hospital to find Carolyn having contractions every 3 or 4 minutes. Carolyn was feeling hungry and a bit nausious so we got her some apple sauce and a few crackers to eat.  I then started on my sandwich.  I got one bite in when Caroyln started to have hard contractions so I quickly bit off a large mouthful and then through the sandwich in the fridge Knowing I might not see it again for a while.  Carolyn was trying to swallow chewed up cracker, which it turns out is a little difficult.  We were very quickly on our way.  Carolyn went to the bathroom and barely made it back to the bed.  The nurse checked her, called the doctor to come and suggested Carolyn roll onto her other side to even out the cervix dilation.  The doctor barely made it for Carolyn to push twice and the baby was out.

Both are doing quite well.  We named the baby Heidi Jean and she is hungry and happy.  We had her at about 11:20am on May 7th.  Carolyn is already home and up and about.  Oh and I am well also, thanks for asking.

PS I think she looks much cuter now that she is not quite so puffy.

So Noah is way into baseball.  He loves to watch guys at the park play catch or to steal a mitt and run around with it.  He will find a bat and then have Carolyn play baseball on the Wii so he can swing his bat around.  So Ian mentioned that They had handed out tickets to a WSU ball game and that I was able to bum along with Noah if I wanted.

It was very sunny out which felt good, but it was wind right on the bleachers so it was actually a bit cold in the midst of the sun.  We won the game and saw a few home-runs so it turned out well.  Noah’s favorite parts were the bits of music that played while the teams change sides and the 7th inning stretch when we all sang take me out to the ballgame.

Black Beard!

November 15th, 2008

Bearded JakeA while ago I grew a beard.  I had to try again because everyone always said that beards look foolish on the Cornwalls.  I felt like I could grow one if I let it go for a while so I did.  It was very popular at Schwietzer to the extent that I was almost a trend setter.  a bunch of other people started to (by people I just mean men, I just get used to being politically correct).Bearded Jake

Carolyn liked the beard and in general I liked it too, but it seemed like it was itchy most of the time I was growing it.  I also found it difficult to drink anything because it would always get in my mustache if I was not really careful.  I liked to play with the part on my chin and look thoughtful because that is what you do.  I had been getting tired of the beard for a while and one day Carolyn said she kind of missed my clean face so I shaved it off shortly thereafter. I do think that I looked decent though.

Jake with the chopsActually I shaved the beard into some chops because of another movement on the swing shift at Schwietzer, but only for one day.  No one liked the chops, but I kind of liked feeling like Wolvering.  Oh right, another perk of having the beard (which is probably why pirates had them) was that I instantly had more respect, not that I did not get respect before it’s just that people looked up to me a bit more.I just woke up.

The Red Barn

November 8th, 2008

All of us togetherSo a while back at the beginning of October we were invited by our friends Carie and Matt to go to this “Red Barn” they had some harvesty type things, you know, like hay rides and pumpkin carving and a hay bail maze.  It was a long rideWell the directions took us south out of Pullman and then in the middle of nowhere we took a right.  Then we drove on roads that reminded me of West Virginia until we were far enough out that we wondered if our friends where going to kill us in the middle of nowhere.  Well we finally made it to the road that the barn was supposedly on.  We found one red barn and it did not look festive, it looked like a big red barn that probably had cows in it.  We drove an awful lot and then the scenery began to look like California which was weird. This looked like California we stopped for a moment to call the place for directions, but suspiciously enough neither of us had reception.  I had to go to the bathroom by now and Noah was tired of being in the car so we promptly got back on the road behind a tractor on a small road driving 10-15 mph. Not a bad trip, but we would have liked to see the barn.
